H KINO σε συνεργασία με τον Δήμο Αθηναίων πρόκειται να διοργανώσει το 1ο Φεστιβάλ Ανεξάρτητου Κινηματογράφου των Αθηνών.

Το Φεστιβάλ Ανεξάρτητου Κινηματογράφου της Αθήνας – KINO Athens θα επικεντρωθεί στην έκθεση έργων που γεμίζουν το κενό της κυκλοφορίας ταινιών που διαμορφώνεται από την κύρια παραγωγή και την έκθεση που κυριαρχεί στην αγορά.

Η επιλογή των ταινιών θα βασίζεται στη δύναμη των ταινιών να εμπνέουν την αλλαγή στην κοινωνία μας. Πιστεύουμε ότι η Ανεξάρτητη Δημιουργία είναι ζωτικής σημασίας για την κινητοποίηση του κοινοτικού λόγου και δεσμευόμαστε να επιμελούμαστε δίκαια και χωρίς αποκλεισμούς προγράμματα για όλους. Διψάμε για τολμηρή κινηματογραφική παραγωγή αποκομμένη από οτιδήποτε mainstream και συμβατικό, μια κινηματογραφική παραγωγή που αγκαλιάζει ατρόμητα καλλιτεχνικά crossover έργα που προωθούν την εικαστική τέχνη και την τέχνη της κινηματογραφικής γλώσσας.

Όλες οι ταινίες θα είναι Ελληνικές Πρεμιέρες.

ΚΙΝΟ Athens Film Society, with the support of the Municipality of Athens, is organizing the 1st
Independent Film Festival of Athens, 2 – 5 March, 2023, at Serafio City of Athens.
IFFA VISION & IDENTITY
IFFA sees independent cinema as vital to activating social dialogue. For this reason, the festival focuses
on innovative films that challenge viewers mind and imagination and have the power to inspire social
change. IFFA is open to all creators, in an inclusive and fair manner. Through screenings, Q&As,
discussions and exhibitions IFFA aims to strengthen independent filmmaking, stimulate dialogue,
promote learning and create an active community, united by cinema. At IFFA we are committed to
remaining open to continuous discovery. To keep looking for fresh films, visual innovations, bold
experimentation and new approaches to the visual arts.
SECTIONS
The festival program for its 1st edition will be composed by two main competitive sections:
• Deer International Competition – Features
• Deer International Competition – Shorts

Both sections will present films from emerging artists from all over the world that were finalised 12
months prior to the festival’s dates. IFFA does not request premieres and does not disqualify films based
on premiere status.
FILM SUBMISSIONS
●Submissions are open and free.
●Submission deadline: 31.01.2023

PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT
2The complete program of this year’s festival edition will be published online on Friday February 10,
21h00 at KINO Athens website (www.kinoathens.org).
ELIGIBILITY
The following official sections accept submissions:
>> Deer International Competition – Features
Eligible are directors with no limitation to the number of films having done in the past.
To apply films must fulfil all the following criteria:
– Fiction, documentary, experimental, visual art (from 60’ and over).
– All films submitted must be completed after January 31st 2022 (12 months prior to the festival).
– IFFA considers works-in-progress provided that the film can be finalised in time for the festival.
– IFFA does not select films on premiere status.
>> Deer International Competition – Shorts
Eligible are directors with no limitation to the number of short films having done in the past.
To apply to IFFA films must fulfil all the following criteria:
– Fiction, documentary, experimental, visual art (up to 59’).
– All films submitted must be completed after January 31st 2022 (12 months prior to the festival).
– IFFA considers works-in-progress provided that the film can be finalised in time for the festiva

– IFFA does not select films on premiere status.
ENTRY FEE
– IFFA does not charge entry fees. Submissions are open and free.
HOW TO APPLY
– To complete the submission IFFA requires a preview copy of the film with English subtitles with the
exception of English and Greek spoken films.
– The preview copy should be uploaded to a secured streaming platform, such as Vimeo. The URL and
password should be submitted through the online entry form of the festival. The preview link should be
private, downloadable and available up until the end of January 31st 2023.
– Once submitted, the preview copy will only be shared within the programming team of the festival for
the purpose of deciding if and/or it will be presented.
– Submission Deadline: 31st of January 2023.
– Submissions must be completed online via https://filmfreeway.com/kinoathens.
– Incomplete and/or late submissions will not be taken into consideration.
– If selected the programming department will sent you an official invitation to participate.
– IFFA is under no obligation to communicate the reasoning behind its choices with regard to films that
are not selected.
4JURIES & AWARDS
>> Deer International Competition – Features
A national jury composed of renowned personalities from the world of arts will select the winner from nine
(9) nominees who will be awarded as the Gold Deer for best feature film of the city of Athens.
The film will receive national distribution for exhibition in Greece.
>> Deer International Competition – Shorts
A national jury composed of renowned personalities from the world of arts will select the winner of all
nominees who will be awarded as the Gold Deer for best short film of the city of Athens.
The film will receive national distribution for exhibition in Greece (prior to the screening of the Feature
Film).

5KINO Athens, a member of the Athens Culture Net (ACN) of the Municipality of Athens, is an
international society with interactive screenings, bridging cinema and visual arts by means of sound and
the moving image; a film society that invites the audience, the artists and the curators in a collaborative
cinematic experience. Inspired by the long history of the alternative art spaces in New York, its goal is to
explore new ways of cinema (re)presentation, by bringing together elements of contemporary art,
experimental film and documentary.
