Volunteerism is one of the most fundamental and structural elements of Civil Society, while also fostering human values such as solidarity, care, and selfless contribution.
The Municipality of Athens has created the program «WE PARTICIPATE», a new, dynamic framework for volunteerism and human solidarity.
The aim of the program is to issue an open and widespread call, to awaken the spirit of volunteerism, tomaphuman resources, and totrain a new generation of volunteers, a need that has become more pressing than ever in recent years.
Through the «WE PARTICIPATE» program, the Municipality of Athens redefines volunteerism while leveraging the valuable experience of Civil Society organizations and the human resources of the Municipality itself.
The «WE PARTICIPATE» volunteer program will proceed in three stages:
- Stage 1: An open call to the citizens of Athens who wish to contribute as volunteers, and to volunteer organizations that will partner with the Municipality to train volunteers. By completing the corresponding form, citizens can express their interest and participate in various categories of volunteer activities.
- Stage 2: This stage is dedicated to the education and training of volunteers, which prepares them for participation in various municipal initiatives related to social solidarity, climate change, public health, and more. The Municipality of Athens and volunteer organizations of Civil Society will jointly develop a training program with an emphasis on soft skills necessary for volunteer work.
- Stage 3: The final stage concerns the implementation of the “WE PARTICIPATE” volunteer program, during which trained volunteers will be deployed in a wide range of actions and activities of the Municipality, according to individual preferences and the Municipality’s needs.
*Volunteers will receive certification for their training and participation in municipal activities.
Among the objectives of the “WE PARTICIPATE” volunteer program are:
- Helping vulnerable citizens.
- Showing solidarity with fellow human beings.
- Taking care of our neighborhoods.
- Making Athens a city where citizens care for and support each other even more.
Through the «WE PARTICIPATE» program, the Municipality of Athens ensures that volunteers receive proper training, recognition, and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution with measurable benefits for society.
