Athens, known as the cradle of Western civilization, is the birthplace of theater founded on the cornerstone of ancient dramatic works. This summer Badminton Theater, one of the most prestigious theaters in Greece, offers its visitors the opportunity to experience Euripides Electra, a masterpiece of ancient drama in a new and phenomenal production maintaining the integrity of the classic theatrical format in 21st century Theater.Electra constitutes a profound study of the notions of revenge, guilt, repentance and justice. Electra and her brother Orestes are destined to kill their mother, Clytemnestra, to revenge the murder of their father, Agamemnon. The plot centers on the unholy plan of the siblings and focuses on their emotional transitions and the psyche of their characters. This work of Euripides was first noted in 413 B.C. introducing amazing delicacy in the author's dissection of the archetypical dilemmas that are today as vividly compelling aspects of human natures need for ethical morality as they were over twenty-five centuries ago. Under the direction of Spyros Evaggelatos, the highly acclaimed academic with nearly half a century of expertise in the art of Greek theater, award winning Marina Aslanoglou brings the title character Electra to life with her unbridled passion for the role. Alongside her are the legendary Reni Pittaki and Yiannis Voglis in the company of other renowned actors.

Enhanced for universal understanding, translation titles and a program are available in several foreign languages.

Join us at Badminton Theater, centrally located in a park just ten minutes by Metro from Syntagma Square, and embrace the opportunity to absorb a quintessential theatrical experience in the city of Athens, the home of Ancient Drama.
