Apokries is the Carnival time for Athens, Greece. A celebration for people of all ages, it harmoniously blends traditions with contemporary ideas and events that appeal to all citizens, children and city visitors.The Carnival period in Athens, Greece lasts for three weeks, and it's non-stop party time before the restrictions of Lent.
In 2012 Carnival runs from Sunday 5th February to Sunday 26th February. Carnival in Athens, Greece is a chance to escape everyday monotony and enter into a world of party and fantasy. It's all about dressing up and having fun. During the three weeks of the Carnival period Athens is bursting with masqueraders. Athenians of all ages as well as visitors to Athens dress up and throw parties or frequent the town cafes and bars dressed in masks, wigs and funny costumes. Additional, the City of Athens has made it a priority to offer events every year that appeal to children given that the Carnival is a children's celebration.
Weekends, and the final carnival weekend in particular, are the most popular periods for dressing-up and many masked balls and dances are held at various venues throughout the three week carnival period. PLAKA FESTIVITIES
Together with the carnival celebrations presented by the City of Athens, the restaurant owners of Plaka offer a carnival dish and wine at the price of 4.5 euros.
 
The Plaka carnival comes to life in the area beginning from the Acropolis Metro Station following the route to Shelley Str. – Vyronos Str. - Aghia Aikaterini Square – Filomousou Square – Kydathinaion Str. – Tripodon Str. - Flessa Str. (to the left) Lysiou Str. – Markou Aureliou Str. - Adrianou Str., all the way to Monastiraki Square.
