Welfare Centre Support

The City of Athens is well-versed in providing social support to children in various ways.

It supports the "Ark of the World" foundation at Akadimia Platonos through the provision of meals on a daily basis. The centre supports mainly children of single-parent families who face serious social and financial problems, as well as children without a family, both Greek and migrant children who live together in harmony. The City of Athens donates food items and clothing to the foundation, while it also runs a fund-raising marathon via municipal radio station Athina 9.84 FM.

The municipality runs a food provision programme for children monitored and supported by the "Child and Family Support Centre" in Metaxourgio. The centre aims to support families and children who face integration difficulties. Run by volunteers, the centre offers activities and supportive learning for children and teenagers in an effort to develop skills, cultivate a sense of trust and self-respect and promote social integration.

In addition, the City of Athens supports the "Friends of the Child" food provision programme. The non-profit association raises funds through member subscriptions, donations, sponsorship and the proceeds of events it organises. It strives to protect and care for children by providing psychological support to both the child and its family.
