Courtyard
The gas production procedure at the former gas factory
began in the courtyard. The presence of the imposing floodlit smokestacks takes
us back in time to the site where coal was gathered from warehouses in Athens and Piraeus
and weighed. This was where the production of the main by-product of gas -
known as coke - took place.
Today, the old factory's courtyard has been adapted so
it can host concerts and festivals, theatre and dance performances, children's
events, film screenings and modern art exhibitions.

This unique space, where spare parts of the imposing
machinery and tools were kept, host the administrations of “Technopolis”.
D2 Building - Yiannis Ritsos Hall
Athina Municipal Radio 9.84 FM and Amphitheatre
The second gasometer is home to Athina Municipal Radio
9.84 FM, which began operating in May 1987 and established free broadcasting in
Greece.
The amphitheatre is suitable for theatre performances, concerts, lectures,
seminars, book presentations, etc. The venue also hosts the Museum of Radio
Broadcasting which features rare exhibits from
the century-long history of radio. Admission is free.
Athens International Radio 104.4 FM, the
municipality's station which is geared specifically to the city's foreign
nationals and visitors, operates on a 24-hour basis, presenting news and
programmes in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Albanian and
other languages. The radio station has an exclusive cooperation agreement with
the BBC (English), RFI (French) and Deutsche Welle (German).

D4 Building - Angelos Sikelianos Hall
The factory's imposing iron installations, known as
gasometers, were used for the measuring and storage of gas prior to its
distribution.
The second gasometer has been redeveloped and accommodates staff offices on the
ground and 1st floor, while exhibitions, mainly of artistic interest, are held
on the 2nd floor.
The venue's natural lighting and view make it an ideal
site for the staging of art exhibitions.

D4 Building - Maria Callas Museum
The second
floor
will house
the
museum
soon
"Maria Callas", carried by
the
Hall
Andreas
Embiricos.
It will be the only venue in Greece
dedicated to the greatest opera performer of the 20th century, it features a
number of Callas' personal items, letters and photographs. The public will have
the opportunity to view an exhibition enriched with new documentation of the
life and work of the legendary Greek soprano.
D6 Building - Takis Papatsonis Hall - The Furnaces
The hall incorporating the former furnaces, perhaps
Technopolis' most distinctive space, retains the atmosphere and feeling of the
old factory. The coal was transferred from the courtyard to this site for the
burning process, which separated the gas from its by-products (coke, rust,
tar).
Today, it serves an ideal space for the hosting of a range of visual art
exhibitions (video art, paintings, photography, sculptures, engravings) as well
as alternative theatre and music performances.

D7 Building - Constantine Cavafy Hall
In this room, where one can view an original rail
wagon and tracks, German furnaces which offer better performance had been
installed in order to accelerate the coal-burning process.
This modern industrial space is available for visual exhibitions (video art,
paintings, photography, sculptures, engravings), children's events and music
performances.

D10 Building - Kostis Palamas Hall
This site constituted the so-called
"purgatory" where the gas, having undergone the freezing process, was
channelled through pipes to the "presses" for the final stage of
cleaning.
This multi-purpose room, which operates on two levels,
is ideally suited to hosting visual exhibitions (video art, paintings,
photography, sculptures, engravings), as well as seminars, chamber music
performances, conferences, screenings and press conferences.

D12 Building - Nikos Gatsos Hall
Technopolis' largest space, it hosted the factory's
machine shop and woodwork shop, and has since been developed into a
multi-purpose site for the hosting of exhibitions, conferences etc.

D13 Building - Blacksmith's forge
This space served as a blacksmith's forge (furnace)
and today functions as a small-scale exhibition space.

D15 Building
This site housed the factory's third gasometer.
D16
Building - Technopoliseis
Liquid gas production took place in this building,
which was constructed in accordance with German technology standards in the
1950s. The space has been restored and maintains all of its original elements. A
gift shop operates on the ground floor with a range of memorabilia, small-scale
artwork, Technopolis publications, magazines, posters, postcards and other
items available for purchase. Opening hours: 10:00-22:00.
Α1 Building - Gaz a l'eau
This site today houses Technopolis' bar-restaurant,
where visitors can enjoy coffee, soft drinks or a light meal. It formerly
housed a furnace which produced liquid gas, the so-called "gazalo"
(Gaz a l'eau), by mixing coke with unburnt coal. Opening hours: 10:00-24:00.
Α8 Building
The factory's administrative offices were located in
this building. Today it continues to be used as office space to cover the needs
of Technopolis.
