Office for Equality programmes and activities
The Office for Equality plans and implements educational programmes and seminars, some of which are subsidized, with the aim of promoting gender equality in all fields.
It implements programmes, European and otherwise, in the fields of career guidance, job training and workforce re-entry. The employment programmes planned by the City of Athens Development Agency (AEDA) take into special consideration members of the city's female population who face difficult circumstances, such as the long-term jobless, disabled individuals, low-income earners, single parents, refugees, migrants, women who have suffered abuse etc. The main goal of the programmes is to prepare the women on a social and employment level, improve their skills and place them in viable employment. This involves a combination of actions concerning information, career guidance and counseling, Greek language classes for migrants and job training.
It conducts educational seminars on matters such as health, abuse prevention and participatory decision-making. It also operates a counseling centre staffed by specialists who offer social and psychological support on family matters.
It has created an information centre for the city's female population which focuses on rights and job training and development opportunities.
Finally, it operates a Shelter for Abused Women which is open to all women, both Greek and foreign, who have suffered abuse.
