The City of Athens Office for Equality conducts systematic study and research of problems faced by women in the City of Athens, while acting as an information source which aims to eliminate gender discrimination.
It encourages and supports female initiative in all fields and monitors the implementation of directives, decisions and action programmes concerning equality within the local community framework issued by the European Union and international organisations.
It introduces measures necessary for the achievement of legal and true gender equality within the framework of policies implemented by municipal organizations. It also evaluates proposals regarding activities which seek to increase women's participation in local community development, for possible inclusion in the municipality's programme.
The Office for Equality is also open to women who are victims of violence and offers psychological and social support. As a counseling service, it provides counseling on family matters to families, couples and individuals.
