21/07/2009 - 21:00

"Babylonia" by Demetris Byzantios, together with some of the most important actors of the theatre's new generation, presented in a co-production by the National Theatre, the Serres Public Regional Theatre and the Komotini Public Regional Theatre.

An Easterner, a Moraitis, a Hiotis, a Cretan, an Arvanitis, a Cypriot and an intellectual from Ko, while being in Nafplio hear, that Ibrahim's fleet has been destroyed (1827), and decide to celebrate the good news by having a feast in the hut of Hioti mise Bastia. They have a little too much to drink because of their excessive patriotic enthusiasm, when the irritable Arvanitis who did not understand the Cretan's dialect, mistakenly thinks the latter has insulted him, he shoots and injures him with a pistol. The police arrive, and the interrogations begin by the Ionian policeman Dionysio Fante, but regardless of his years of experience does not succeed to determine whether the Cretan's injury was kaso pe nsato (premeditated) or atsidente (random), because of the fact that he can't understand the witnesses' dialect, and the witnesses' cannot understand his, they are all taken to the police along with the Hioti shop-owner, where in the end they are all released after being ordered by the police administration and make up like brothers.

All these characters and situations will be resurrected, to show us how painfully the same we have remained since our liberation from the Turks.
