The Organisation was established on September 29, 2003, with the aim of unifying the Music Ensembles and creating a single unit so as to better serve the municipality's musical events as well as further develop and promote the Music Ensembles, which consist of:

• The Symphony Orchestra
• The Big Band
• The Greek Music Workshop
• The Athens Mixed Municipal Choir
• The Children's Choir
• De Stijl

The virtuosity of the musicians and the repertoire they perform in concert cover a diverse range of music genres, from symphonic and classical music to modern jazz and Greek art song. The Music Ensembles perform independent concerts and events but also participate in Greek and international festivals - in cooperation with municipal, educational and cultural institutions - and conduct tours outside Athens and abroad.

The Music Ensembles concerts form part of the municipality's general cultural and social mission, a mission whose aim is to offer quality music to all citizens through top-class events. Such events establish the foundations for the cultivation of a broad musical and cultural education, particularly among the younger generations. These events, held at sites familiar and accessible to everyone, are staged in as many city neighbourhoods, schools and educational institutions as possible.
