The
City of Athens Development Agency SA was founded in September 1996 and operates
as a limited company whose goal is to develop actions and initiatives and offer
services that seek to upgrade the quality of life of cities and achieve sustainable
urban development.
The
company's shareholders are the City of Athens,
the Local Union of Municipalities and Communities of Attica (TEDKNA), the
Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), the National and Kapodistrian
University of Athens, the National Technical University of Athens and the City
of Athens Insurance Agency.
The
Agency's goal is to discover innovative approaches to urban planning and
management and propose policies that will contribute to the economic
development of cities and citizens. as well as social cohesion.
The
Agency's key areas of concern and activity are urban development in the greater
sense, social policy, environmental policy, culture and information technology.
It conducts applied research on basic sectoral problems faced
by primary and secondary Local Government.
It monitors, records and provides reliable and constantly-updated
information on the agency's areas of activity.
It collaborates with numerous European Municipalities
and Regions, as well as international and national bodies, such as research and
academic institutions, training centres, non-governmental organisations (NGO),
European Cooperation Networks (Eurocities etc), as well as private companies.
It submits proposals for the implementation of programmes to
national, European and international organisations on behalf of the City of Athens.
It acts as a technical advisor for the City of Athens concerning the
funding of urban regeneration projects aimed at achieving sustainable
development.
It carries out economic, social and environmental studies.
It intervenes in and contributes to the formulation of
policies on urban centres through the submission of proposals to Local
Government agencies.
It implements, manages and coordinates approved actions and
programmes assigned to the agency.
In its 12 years of operation, the City of Athens Development Agency
has managed to achieve its goal of consistent growth potential through a range
of scientific activities and initiatives, including European and National
programmes, research, the organisation of international and European events and
the "PROSOPSI" façade renovation programme.
The
City of Athens Development Agency seeks to claim a sizeable component of existing
European programmes and the 4th Community Support Framework, areas in which it
has proven experience. In addition, the agency intends to expand its activities
within and beyond national borders through active participation in programmes involving
bodies of various countries, with a special emphasis on the Balkans and Southeastern Europe.
