09-03-2010: “Tribute event for women of Municipality’s Friendship Clubs”
An event dedicated to female members
of the Municipality's Friendship Clubs was successfully held last night at the
Peroke theatre organised by City of Athens
and the Social Welfare Department on the occasion of Women's Day.
Eight well-known, beloved actors met
on stage and shared with the audience their beautiful moments from their
personal lives and careers. Smaro Stefanidou, Despina Stylianopoulou, Kali
Kalo, Gelly Mavropoulou, Rika Dialyna, Eleni Mavili, Melpo Zarokosta and Zozo
Sapountzaki shared memories and experiences in a discussion moderated with
humor by Rozita Sokou and journalist Kostas Arvanitis.
The main topic of discussion was the
woman's multiple roles in society. "The woman is the backbone of life",
according to the great ladies of the Greek theatre, who commented in their own,
unique way, in regards to their relationship with the opposite sex.
Acknowledging the significant
contribution of all these beloved actors, City Councillor for Social Welfare
Tonia Kanellopoulou awarded, on behalf of Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis, a
honourary plaque to each one separately.
The leading ladies of the event
thanked Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis and Mrs. Kanellopoulou for the
opportunity to come together on the same theater stage and receive honours.
On her part, City Councillor for
Social Welfare Tonia Kanellopoulou said:
"At the initiative of Athens Mayor
Nikitas Kaklamanis we decided to celebrate this day differently, with
originality, and to honour the ladies of Greek cinema's golden age who came to
honor us with their presence. The female members of the Friendship Club had a
wonderful evening, and within the framework of the "3rd and Better Still"
action and communication programme, many other events will follow".
The event concluded with a concert entitled "From Attik to Gounaris",
presented by David Nachmias and his associates, with a rare tribute to the most
melodic period of Greek music.
