04-03-2010: “City of Athens and Athens Prefecture to facilitate access for wheelchair users”

Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis and Athens
Prefect Yiannis Sgouros have initiated a major joint effort to facilitate
access for individuals with mobility difficulties in the seven City Districts.

Within the
framework of this collaboration, a comprehensive works programme, focusing on
the City of Athens'
2,466 wheelchair ramps, is being carried out. Special paint is being applied to
the ramps to deter drivers from parking illegally and obstructing the passage
of individuals with disabilities. Additionally, repairs are being made to ramps
where necessary.

The programme begins at Thivon St, in front
of the Agia Sophia Children's Hospital. Mayor Kaklamanis and
Prefect Sgouros will present the programme tomorrow, Friday, March 5, at 8:00.
