Educational Programmes
Greek-language learning programmes
The City of Athens regularly runs Greek-language learning programmes for adult migrants, as knowledge of the language is a basic need as evidenced in contacts with migrant community representatives.
The programmes seek to:
- Improve parents' capabilities to monitor the progress of children attending school
- Expand on migrants' access to basic information and improve their understanding of it (print and electronic media, in everyday communication) with the aim of facilitating job-seeking, locating a home etc
- Enhance opportunities for smooth integration.
Basic computer skills programmes
The City of Athens regularly runs basic computer skills seminars which target:
- Women (unemployed, single parents, etc)
- Long-term unemployed
- Migrants, refugees and asylum seekers
The goal of the programme is to arm participants with skills which can help improve their standing in the job market as well as contribute to their smooth social integration.
At the conclusion of the programme, students have the opportunity to obtain state-recognised IC3 certification of computer skills free of charge through certification agency Infotest.
