Green Spaces

Athens' greenery can be divided into two major categories:

• Large green spaces, such as Attiko Woods, Lycabettus and Filopappos Hills and archaeological sites. Their total size is greater than 10,000 m². Vegetation in these areas comprises chiefly Mediterranean tree and bush species.

• Small green spaces - neighbourhood greenery. Found in city neighbourhoods, their total size is no greater than 10,000 m². Vegetation is small, comprising mainly Greek and foreign species in the form of trees and bushes which have been planted in a systematic fashion. These spaces include squares, small parks and pavements.
