Green Spaces
Athens' greenery can be divided into two major categories:
- Large green spaces, such as Attiko Woods, Lycabettus and Filopappos Hills and archaeological sites. Their total size is greater than 10,000 m2. Vegetation in these areas comprises chiefly Mediterranean tree and bush species.
- Small green spaces - neighbourhood greenery. Found in city neighbourhoods, their total size is no greater than 10,000 m2. Vegetation is small, comprising mainly Greek and foreign species in the form of trees and bushes which have been planted in a systematic fashion. These spaces include squares, small parks and pavements.
