A total of 455 schools (Preschools, Primary Schools, Junior High Schools, General Senior High Schools, Technical Vocational Schools, Vocational High Schools, Special Preschools and Special Primary Schools) operate within the boundaries of the City of Athens.
The City of Athens receives and fulfils requests - where possible - from schools that require repairs, maintenance and other work. In some cases, it constructs new school buildings.
Furthermore, the City of Athens provides security guards for secondary schools. Since the 1999-2000 academic year, the City of Athens has conducted a volunteer school crossing guard scheme, ensuring the safe arrival and departure of students.
