The City of Athens' children's campsites are situated on an 18-hectare pine-filled property, which combines lush greenery with sea views, in Agios Andreas, Attica, some 30km from the centre of Athens.
It is considered one of the best campsites in the Balkans, in terms of the comfort of lodgings, the quality of sporting facilities - which meet modern European standards - and the safety of campers. A special operational programme entitled "THEMISTOKLIS" is in place, which ensures that campers are safely evacuated in the event of an emergency.
In the summer months, the City of Athens' children's campsite is open for four 15-day periods and can host 1,200 girls and boys aged 6-12, camp counsellors and group leaders per period. Throughout the year it is made available to associations, sports clubs, schools and visitor groups from European and Balkan countries for one-day or multi-day stays.
Campers participate in a programme of daily activities which combines fun and entertainment with educational methods, providing motives for children to exercise their body and soul, logic and imagination. Pottery, handicraft, collage and drawing workshops are held, while our young friends can also sing in a choir and learn the secrets of the theatre and literature. Campers can borrow books from the library or create items for which they may receive an award at the end of the camping period. The site also hosts a playground, cinema and driver training facility.
The campsite hosts a range of sports facilities including swimming pools, two basketball courts, a full-size soccer ground, two volleyball courts and ping-pong tables, all of which are supervised by qualified trainers. Sports competitions are staged and commemorative certificates awarded to participants. Young campers can also attend traditional or modern dance lessons.
