The Athens Mixed Municipal Choir

Founded in 1999, the Athens Mixed Municipal Choir comprises professional
musicians and singers.
In collaboration with the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra and Chamber
Orchestra, Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation Symphonic Orchestra, Mikis
Theodorakis Orchestra and other ensembles, the Athens Mixed Municipal Choir has
performed the following works thus far: Symphony No. 9, Ludwig Van Beethoven's
Fantasia, Requiem, Cosi fan tutte, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Great Mass in C
minor, Deutsches Requiem, Liebeslieder, Nanie, Johannes Brahms' Gesang der
Parzen, Walpurgisnacht, Felix
Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Vivaldi's Gloria, Pergolesi's Stabat
Mater, Georg Friedrich Handel's Messiah, Johann Sebastian Bach's Magnificat, Richard
Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, Erik Satie's Sokrates, Maurice Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé, Pavane, Gabriel Faure's Requiem, Carl Orff's Carmina
Burana, Manolis Kalomiris' Symphony No. 1, Eleftherios Kalkanis' Tres in Unam,
Zorba, Canto General, Mikis Theodorakis' Axion Esti, Yannis Markopoulos' The
Free Besieged, John and Tasos Ioannidis' Revelation and Yiorgos Pazaitis'
Spring Voices.
The Athens Mixed
Municipal Choir has also performed a capella concerts featuring
the works of Monteverdi, Palestrina, Banchieri, Schuman, Saint-Saens, Bardos,
Brahms, Verdi, Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Mimis
Plessas, Konstantinos Lygnos, Michalis Adamis, Alkis Baltas, Theodoros Antoniou,
Yiannis Ioannidis, Yiannis Konstantinidis and Vassilis Papakonstantinou.
The choir has also performed tribute concerts
featuring works by Verdi, Berstein, Brahms, Strauss and Mozart, in
collaboration with the municipality's music ensembles. In June 2001 the Athens Mixed
Municipal Choir joined renowned French composer Jean Michel Jarre in concerts at
the Herod Atticus theatre.
Finally, the Athens Mixed Municipal Choir has appeared in various festivals throughout Greece, such as
the Santorini International Music Festival, the Patmos Sacred Music Festival and
numerous choir festivals.
Maestro Stavros Beris, has conducted the choir
since its inception.
