The museum, a donation by Vassilis and Irini Moskovis
to the City of Athens, is housed in a two-storey building in Sepolia and features
a significant element of our national heritage which focuses on the remote Dodecanese
island region, and particularly the isle of Symi.
The museum contains a diverse selection of Dodecanese folk art and tradition, such as gold-embroidered
costumes, wood-carved home interiors, embroidery, textiles, dishes, silver
items, icons and household utensils, all of which are assorted throughout 20 rooms
and auxiliary areas.
The museum also includes an important collection of
modern Greek art, works by foreign artists, an impressive library and literary
works penned by the benefactor.
In September 1996, the City of Athens
assumed the responsibility for continuing the work of Vassilis Moskovis and renovated
the exterior of the building and begun to organise tours for students and other
interested parties.

programmes are not held in summer.
