The City of Athens Cultural Centre has been housed since 1971 in one of the oldest buildings in the city centre.

Designed by German architect F. Staufert, the building opened in 1842 and first operated as the Elpis Municipal General Hospital,

The Cultural Centre comprises three exhibition rooms, namely, the Fotis Kontoglou, Yiorgos Iakovidis and Nikolaos Gyzis halls.

It also includes the Antonis Tritsis amphitheatre, which plays host to interdisciplinary seminars (except for summer months). The amphitheatre has a 200-seat capacity and is available for seminars, conferences, events, book presentations and other cultural events.
