Smyrna. The distruction of the cosmopolitan city 1900-1922

Having carried out four years of research, the director and curator, Maria Iliou, and the historical consultant, Alexander Kitroeff present their work on Smyrna via previously unseen visual materials from archives from the US and Europe at Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece.

The historical documentary and exhibition have special importance not only because they present these previously unknown images of Smyrna but also because Iliou and Kitroeff bring a new perspective; a perspective that keeps its distance from both an excessive nationalistic narration of the tale, and from more recent attempts to conceal the tragic events of the disaster, thereby distorting the truth.

Great Russian Painters 1920-2010 from Manege Collection in Saint Petersburg

Works of great Russian Painters from Manege Collection will be hosted at B & M Theocharakis Foundation in Athens, Greece from December 15th 2011 until March 11th 2012 . The Manege Gallery Collection is a unique museum ensemble in Russia. It is housed in the Central Exhibition Hall of the municipality of Saint Petersburg and reflects the artistic history of the city of Petrograd (1914-1924), Leningrad (1924-1991), Saint Petersburg (1991).

Kamishibai: Paper Theater

Educational Program for children aged 4-7 yrs
Every Sunday from January 29th until February 19th 2012, from 11:00 until 12:30 at Herakleidon Museum in Athens, Greece, Vasilia Vaxevani will be unfolding stories from all over the world, using the kamishibai* technique, precursor of Japanese comics. Together, the children will create their own "paper theater".

Mathematics and the arts of Japan

The Herakleidon Museum in Athens,Greece, in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Athens, present an exhibition of works by the sculptor Ntina Anastasiadou titled "Mathematics and the Arts of Japan".

The exhibition comprises 60 sculptures, ceramic works and constructions inspired by the Culture of Japan.
